DOCTORAL STUDENT (M/F/D)
Plasma-assisted biogas processing

Fixed term contract for 3 years/ Part-time appointment (30 hours/week)/ Target salary: TV-L Ost/E13

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Biogas is a promising renewable energy source and an important component for the future energy supply. It consists mainly of methane (50-75%) and carbon dioxide (25-50%) and is produced by anaerobic fermentation of biomass, landfill and wastewater treatment. Besides using methane as an energy source, biogas can also be converted into synthesis gas (H2 + CO) as a valuable resource for chemical syntheses. In this way, the greenhouse gas CO2 is reduced and added to a chemical value chain. The aim is to develop a more efficient method for the conversion of biogas into synthesis gas, which can primarily be installed locally at bio-gas plants. In detail, you will:

- Investigate plasma-assisted syngas formation from CO2 and CH4;
- Develop reliable experimental systems and procedures;
- Carry out chemical, electrical and optical diagnostics of the process;
- Derive and evaluate process parameters;
- Carry out documentation, communication and presentation of results.
