0248 PhD STUDENT on PROTEINS IN REDOX SIGNALING

SMART PEOPLE WANTED!

The research project ZIK plasmatis (group: plasma & liquids) at the INP Greifswald focuses on biochemical and cellular redox processes in cancer and wound biology. Specifically, we want to understand the translation of redox signals from the outside into the inside of mamma-lian cells or tissues. Biochemical models and accompanying in vitro/in vivo models will route the project’s progress towards modulating the biochemistry of short lived reactive species.

The INP Greifswald is the largest European low temperature plasma research institute outside of academia and ranks amongst the most modern institutions in this field worldwide. We carry out fundamental and applied research FROM IDEA TO PROTOTYPE. In an international environment, we are dealing with topics that are relevant to society within the research areas Materials & Energy as well as Environment & Health. Currently about 180 employees are working at three locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

To strengthen our research group, we are seeking to hire for the location in Greifswald from 1st January 2018 a motivated

PhD STUDENT
on PROTEINS IN REDOX SIGNALING

The 66%-position is granted for 3 years / TV-L Ost wage group 13.

Job description:
It is evident, that numerous proteins sense and transport the information of reactive oxygen or nitrogen species and govern the subsequent cell fate (redox signaling). This property leaves proteins as central modulators in the impact of external reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, e.g. from UV radiation, cold physical plasmas, or chemicals. You will investigate, how the chemical structure of proteins involved in redox signaling is affected by ROS/RNS and how these changes translate into downstream processes in mammalian cells and tissue. In collab-orating with other researcher at our institute you will help to decipher subsequent immune re-sponses thought by be relevant in cancer biology and wound healing.

In your doctoral thesis you will:
- investigate the biochemical impact of short lived reactive species on model pep-tide/protein systems using e.g. high resolution mass spectrometry
- translate these findings into cell models with emphasis on downstream signaling, e.g. by microscopy
- evaluate these findings in primary cell / tissue models

We offer:
- Payment and social benefits according to the collective agreement for Federal States (TVL-Ost)
- Modern lab infrastructure and excellent research tools
- Internal trainings (e.g. project management, scientific writing)
- Interdisciplinary research – scientists from biology, pharmacy, chemistry, physics under one roof
- A work environment certified as family-friendly (e.g. flexible working hours)
